Leading Utilities In Reducing Risks
Through effective collaboration, strong leadership, and implementation of best practices, we will work together to protect life, property, and the environment.
Utilities across the nation are facing increasing challenges due to everything from aging infrastructure to climate change. Risk management has become a strategic imperative to determine how to manage these obstacles safely and economically. Utility Safety Associates launched to assist utilities in addressing these risks, accelerate learning, and implement solutions.
David Geier leads Utility Safety Associates. Mr. Geier has forty years of experience in the utility industry and has taken part in almost all aspects of Utility Operations. In 2007, catastrophic wildfires hit San Diego County, and many originated from electric utility lines. Following these events, San Diego Gas and Electric began a wildfire prevention program never to be an ignition source for another wildfire in their service territory. Mr. Geier became the primary architect for this program, and SDG&E is now world-renowned for its effectiveness in wildfire prevention. Most importantly, there has not been a catastrophic wildfire caused by electric lines in San Diego County for the past 13 years. The knowledge acquired through the development and implementation of these programs is directly transferable to help other utilities mature their wildfire mitigation programs more quickly and immediately meet their objectives.
Utility Safety Associates focuses on pinpointing business requirements, driving innovative solutions, and ensuring effective implementation. Areas of consulting expertise include developing Governance/Strategic initiatives, providing Technical/tactical guidance, and implementing utility operations best practices.
“When you need to innovate, you need to collaborate.”
